Tampere Academic Symphony Orchestra TASO`s musicians will perform Seasons Chamber Music Concert on Saturday 29th of March 2025 at 6 p.m. in the atmospheric Finlayson Church. The concert opens with pieces of Modest Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition (1874) interpreted by the wind and brass musicians of TASO. Originally composed for piano, Pictures at an Exhibition consists of ten movements. The Promenade-theme recurs between the sections, during which one can imagine the viewer of the art exhibition moving from one painting to another. The composition was inspired by the drawings and watercolors of Mussorgsky's artist friend Viktor Hartmann.
The concert's main work will be Antonio Vivaldi's Four Seasons (1720). This is one of Vivaldi's most popular works and also one of the most famous works of Italian Baroque music. In Four Seasons, Vivaldi paints colorful still images of the Italian seasons with virtuoso techniques. Riitta Savilahti (Summer), Mikko Kivistö (Autumn), Tuuli Marenk (Winter) and Roope Jokinen (Spring) will perform as violin soloists. The work is composed of four sonnets, or poems, which also describe the expressions and events of the different seasons in words. Music itself does not need words. As violin soloist Roope Jokinen describes:“The concertos are full of familiar melodies and musical emotions, from the exciting hustle and bustle of an autumn hunting trip to the warm winter fireside, are conveyed without words.”
Welcome to the concert!
